BCCI looking to host 2 T20I series ahead of World T20: report

MUMBAI: The BCCI is reportedly looking to invite international teams for two short T20I tours before the World T20 that India is scheduled to host in October. Reason: so that the Virat Kohli-led side ‘remains in touch with the format’.

The BCCI is in touch with its counterparts in South Africa and New Zealand to figure out the modalities, The Times of India reports.

“South Africa and New Zealand are scheduled to come to India to play a couple of T20I series before the World Cup. The modalities are to be finalized. The board is aware that the team needs to be in touch with the format before the cup starts,” a senior BCCI official told the daily.

The Indian team already has a packed schedule ahead of the World T20 with the players traveling to England for the World Test Championship right after the Indian Premier League 2021 ends. India is scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England which will only end by mid-September.

India will host a Test series against New Zealand right after the World T20 and then is scheduled to head to South Africa for a long tour immediately afterwards.
