MUMBAI: BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary on Monday said the board is trying its best to ensure all matches of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League take place in the country.
The dates and venues of the IPL have not been announced yet as the BCCI is awaiting the schedule of the 2019 general elections as they would definitely clash with the cash awash Twenty20 tournament.
“We are trying our best to ensure that not a single game is taken out of India,” PTI quotes Choudhary as having told reporters on the sidelines of the IPL auction in Jaipur on Tuesday.
In a related development, a BCCI delegation was looking to meet concerned government officials in the capital on Wednesday to discuss how best to coordinate matters so as to ensure all games are held in India while the elections are in play.
According to Mumbai Mirror, the thinking is that as there 26 potential venues in the country available to host IPL games, it was all about managing the logistics of scheduling matches in a manner so as to avoid the poll bound regions at any given time.
Due to the World Cup in England from May 30-July 14, the IPL is scheduled to run from the last week of March to mid-May.
The BCCI had hosted the tournament in South Africa during the 2009 elections before partially hosting it in the UAE during the 2014 elections.
