NEW DELHI: The BCCI announced at its special general meeting (SGM) here recently that state associations were unanimous in taking further steps to nullify the threat posed by match fixers in domestic T20 leagues across the country.
As a result, the board has laid down strict guidelines regarding the same, according to a report in CricketNext.
“The BCCI has zero tolerance to corruption. In the last year or so there had been some tournaments organised in some states that appeared to be majorly compromised with regard to integrity. Although none of such tournaments had been organised under the aegis of a state association, the board felt that it would be in the fitness of things to lay down a policy to ensure that all possible efforts are made to keep the tournaments organised by the state cricket associations pure and free from corrupt practices,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying to the website.
It was also decided that in these leagues, only those players who haven’t got the opportunity to play in the IPL, will participate in them so that they become a bigger hotbed of talent. Besides this, every player can at the most participate in 2 such tournaments throughout the year.
“The basic idea was to keep away the international players and those who are a regular in the IPL so that the domestic players get more opportunity to shine and showcase their skills. So, only those domestic players who have historically never been a part of any IPL franchise can be a part of these leagues,” the official continued.
