BENGALURU TORPEDOES were crowned champions of the Prime Volleyball League (PVL) after a commanding straight-sets victory over the Mumbai Meteors at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, on Sunday. The Torpedoes sealed the final 15-13, 16-4, 15-13, showcasing control, composure, and tactical precision throughout.
Both teams started cautiously, keeping the contest tight from the middle zone. Petter Alstad Ostvik drew first blood with a sharp block on Joel Benjamin, before Jishnu responded for Bengaluru by denying Shubham Chaudhary at the net. Strong service pressure from Sethu edged Bengaluru ahead, forcing Mumbai to call for a super point. Despite Mumbai’s late surge, captain Matt West’s clever distribution and calm leadership guided the Torpedoes to take the opening set.
Sethu opened the second set with the first super serve of the night, setting the tone for Bengaluru’s dominance. A series of unforced errors from Mumbai further widened the gap, as Om Lad Vasant’s efforts to feed his attackers were let down by misfires from Chaudhary and captain Amit Gulia. Bengaluru capitalised ruthlessly, Benjamin’s relentless attacking and another super serve closed the set emphatically, giving the Torpedoes a 2–0 lead.
The third set saw Jalen Penrose add power to Bengaluru’s attack, landing thunderous spikes to maintain momentum. Mumbai, however, fought back with Chaudhary leading a spirited counter-attack.
A bold super point call from Coach David Lee proved decisive, with Penrose striking perfectly to push Bengaluru closer to victory. Though Mumbai earned a super point of their own, a service error from Nikhil at the end sealed the championship for the Torpedoes, crowning a dominant night for Bengaluru and marking a memorable end to the PVL season 4.
