MUMBAI: With the ongoing 13th edition of the Indian Premier League being played behind closed doors, and all teams staying in a bio-secure bubble, the restriction on movement has proved a boon for the Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“There are bookies who have made their way to Dubai, but they have not been able to make any headway. So far it is all smooth and things are working in order. We have been working closely with not just the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), but also the local police and they have been very helpful,” ACU chief Ajit Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.
Shedding light to the newswire on how the ACU is functioning in the UAE where games are being played across only three venues, Singh revealed that three separate teams have been deployed around the venues with the responsibility to keep a check on the proceedings. Players are only allowed to leave the bio bubble for their training sessions on the ground.
“We have three separate teams that are working around the three venues and keeping a track of things. We are in touch with the local police and the ECB. They are helping us and have a better liaison with the local authorities and are helping us whenever needed,” said Singh.
The ACU had earlier conducted online video-counselling sessions for the players of all eight teams to educate them on preventing and reporting corrupt approaches. The team has been working closely with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the UAE police to ensure the integrity of the tournament is not harmed in any way.
IPL 2020 had kick-started in the UAE on September 19 and the tournament will be concluded on November 10.
