NEW DELHI: One Indian cricketer figures among the list of players who tested positive for banned substances in the report for 2016 released this week by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The identity of the cricketer, one among 153 BCCI accreditated cricketers, has not been revealed yet, says a PTI report.
According to the 2016 Anti-Doping Testing Figures, released by WADA on Tuesday, 138 cricketers registered under BCCI were tested ‘In Competition’ (IC). There were 15 ‘Out Of Competition’ (OOC) tests conducted during the same period in which all results were negative. Worldwide, there has been a spike in the number of players testing positive for banned substances, according to WADA.
The cricketer will be the second after former India U-19 player Pradeep Sangwan, who tested positive in 2013 during the IPL that year playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
PTI also quotes a top BCCI official as saying, “We haven’t received any report from the WADA as of now so we are not in a position to reveal the name of the cricketer.”
Meanwhile, the National Anti-Doping Agency recorded 73 positive cases in 2016, having analysed 2831 samples during the period. Among Olympic sports, athletics topped the list with 24 cases, followed by weightlifting (14).
