CWI leads formation of FECA for cricket growth across Americas

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is set to spearhead the formation of La Federación de Críquet de las Américas (FECA) — a landmark regional body aimed at coordinating and accelerating the growth of cricket across North, Central, and South America.

The initiative follows an official visit by CWI president Dr Kishore Shallow to Lima, Peru.

The proposed federation will serve as a collaborative platform to support the rapid development of cricket throughout the Americas, with CWI taking on a guiding role as the only ICC Full Member nation in the region.

Dr Shallow commented: “This marks a pivotal step in advancing cricket across the Americas. Cricket West Indies embraces its responsibility not only to the Caribbean but to the wider region. We recognise the importance of structure, collaboration, and a unified vision to unlock the immense potential that exists throughout the Americas.”

At present, two youth teams from the United States are participating in CWI’s Rising Stars U19 Tournament in St. Kitts, a move that strengthens collaboration with North American neighbours.

In November, four senior national teams from the Caribbean will be selected to travel to Lima, the capital city of Peru, to take part in the Bolivarian Games — a historic first for cricket and a symbolic step into the South American sporting landscape.

Looking ahead to 2027, cricket is expected to feature in the Pan American Games, providing Caribbean nations with Olympic accreditation the opportunity to compete on the international stage — in alignment with the sport’s reintroduction to the Olympic Games.

The proposed establishment of FECA marks a bold new chapter in the development of cricket across the Americas, further cementing Cricket West Indies’ role as the leading force in shaping the sport’s future in the Western Hemisphere.
