DDCA director alleges IPL ticket fraud in Delhi stadium

A CONTROVERSY HAS ERUPTED during the ongoing IPL 2026 season after Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) director, Anand Verma, alleged a ticket fraud and security breach at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Anand Verma has filed a formal complaint with Delhi Police, calling the issue an “organised criminal conspiracy” within the ticketing system. He claimed that Valid ticket holders were denied entry, and that duplicate or fraudulent tickets were used by unauthorized individuals to gain access.

The issue came to light when Verma himself was stopped at the stadium gate despite holding valid hospitality tickets. According to reports and Verma’s complaint, original tickets were allegedly scanned in advance, duplicate copies were generated and circulated, and multiple individuals were able to enter the stadium using cloned tickets.

This suggests a possible systematic breach involving insiders, including stadium staff, security personnel, and ticketing handlers. Verma has alleged collusion within the system, making it more than just a case of technical failure.

The DDCA has denied allegations of fraud, offering an alternative explanation saying that officials attributed the issue to a “technical glitch” in ticket scanners. It has been suggested that barcode scanning errors may have incorrectly marked valid tickets as used and denied entry to legitimate holders. However, this explanation has been contested by Verma, who insists the matter involves intentional malpractice rather than technical failure.
