Decision Review System likely to be used in IPL 2018

MUMBAI: The 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) might see the use of the Decision Review System (DRS) fo the first time.

“The BCCI was keen to have DRS on board since quite some time, but it was only this year we felt we should go ahead with it for the IPL. We have the best of all other systems in place, so why not DRS? Anyway we have been using it for India’s international matches for over a year and a half now,” a BCCI official is quoted as saying in a report in The Indian Express.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not been very fortcoming about using the DRS because theyb felt it was not perfect. It was only in 2016 that they agreed to implement it in matches involving the Indian team. With the IPL also likely to have the DRS, the BCCI seems to have agreed to the usefulness of the system.

To prepare the domestic umpires for the IPL, the board also conducted a session on DRS in Vishakapatnam in decemebr 2017 where Denis Burns, the ICC umpires’ coach and former Australian pacer-turned umpire Paul Reiffel, explained aspects about the DRS to top umpires, the report added.
