Delhi govt to build Rs1.4bn sports complex in Najafgarh

NEW DELHI: The AAP government in Delhi has confirmed that it will be investing Rs 1.4 billion in constructing an 18.2-acre sports complex in Kair Village in Najafgarh, an area where former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag hails from originally.

The state minister of transport and revenue, Kailash Gahlot confirmed the development on his official Twitter handle which read:

“Delhi Govt approves Rs 140 Cr for building a Sports Complex spread over 18 acres at Kair, Najafgarh. Will have int’l level facilities for football, cricket & indoor games. Possible only due to the blessings of @arvindkejriwal Ji and @msisodia Ji.”

The government said in a statement that the project will be completed in two phases and will also include a swimming pool, gymnasium, athletics tracks and tennis and basketball courts as well.

“In the first phase, the cricket field, the canteen and administrative block and the outdoor sport facilities will be completed. The indoor stadium, gymnasium and swimming pool will be added in the second phase. Since it is a district level sports complex, a sports academy with accommodation will be developed later,” the statement read.
