Disney+ Hotstar appoints Netflix exec as marketing director

MUMBAI: OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar has added some heft to its marketing chops with the appointment of Netflix’s Roopa Sharma as director – Marketing, effective as of this month.

Sharma, whose last portfolio in the streaming giant was as Global Creative Marketing – International Originals, will reportedly be focused on social media marketing for the subscription business of Disney+ Hotstar.

For the record, Sunder Balasubramanian heads the marketing function at Disney+ Hotstar, having joined the video streaming platform from Colgate Palmolive in February 2019 as head – Marketing (Brand, Content, Acquisitions).

As for Sharma, her LinkedIn profile reads: “Part of the core marketing team that launched Netflix in India and APAC in 2016 and has since led creative marketing campaigns such as Sacred Games, Narcos, House of Cards, Life without Netflix, Ludo and over 30 originals series and films titles.

“She has also been part of the MTV digital revolution story leading editorial and publishing and has a background in moment and brand marketing.”
