FanCode secures ISL broadcast rights; deal sees sharp value decline

FANCODE, a Dream Sports-owned platform, has been awarded the exclusive global broadcast rights for the Indian Super League (ISL), while Kaleidoscope Production and Services (KPS Studios) will handle the production of the league.

FanCode submitted a winning bid of Rs 8.62 crore for the broadcast rights, while KPS Studios will manage world-feed production for Rs 5.22 crore. This results in a net revenue of Rs 3.4 crore for the ISL. JioStar, meanwhile, placed a bid of Rs 5 crore which covered digital streaming rights only.

As FanCode operates purely as a digital streaming platform, it is expected to sub-license the television broadcast rights, with further details likely to be announced in the coming days.

While the finalisation of the media rights deal brings a measure of relief to fans and stakeholders by clearing the way for the league’s start, the financial figures underline a stark downturn. The ISL’s previous media deal was valued at around Rs 275 crore, making the drop to FanCode’s Rs 8.62 crore bid a significant concern for the wider ecosystem surrounding India’s top-tier football competition.

AIFF deputy secretary general M Satyanarayan said, “We are pleased to have concluded the ISL media rights process and to partner with FanCode, one of India’s leading sports platforms. FanCode’s focus on accessibility and fan experience aligns with our objective of expanding the league’s footprint and engaging more football fans across the country.”

FanCode co-founder Yannick Colaco said, “The Indian Super League is a significant addition to FanCode as it represents the very best of Indian football. With the league’s strong and loyal fan following, we see a big opportunity to elevate how fans experience ISL through reliable, high-quality broadcast and a product designed around modern football audiences. This is in line with Dream Sports group’s overall vision of making sports better.”
