MOSCOW: FIFA announced on Thursday that as many as 2.5 million people were a part of the FIFA fan fest for the World Cup 2018 throughout the host cities in Russia.
The fan fest has been conceptualized over the years, keeping in mind the best place outside the stadium for fans to experience the biggest sporting event in the world. It is open on all match days for fans to watch the matches live and enjoy an exciting music and cultural entertainment programme, free of cost.
The official mascot of the tournament, Zabivaka and its ambassadors, Marcel Desailly and Aleksandr Kerzhakov are travelling across the country to meet and greet all the fan fest visitors.
The festival was started during the 2006 edition of the tournament in Germany by FIFA and since then, has been an official programme of the World Cup, with nearly 30 million people having attending these events over the years.
