PARIS: On the important occasion of International Women’s Day on Friday, FIFA announced that it will be hosting a Global Women’s Football Convention for the first time ever in the city on 6-7 June, ahead of the eighth edition of the Women’s World Cup in France.
The convention will assemble leaders from the worlds of sports and politics for the first time to discuss key issues around the development and empowerment of women in football.
Last year, FIFA had launched its historic Women’s Football Strategy in line with the organisation’s overall strategic road map FIFA 2.0 which aims to grow the game of football, protect its integrity and bring it to all.
FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura commented on the convention: “Today, as we unite on International Women’s Day and commit to #BalanceforBetter, I am delighted to announce that FIFA is organising a landmark forum dedicated to women’s football – the Global Women’s Football Convention. It will bring leaders from sport and politics together to discuss furthering diversity and equality, both on and off the pitch. The convention will harness the spirit of the tournament slogan, Dare to Shine, with encouragement and empowerment of the next generation of girls and women at the core of the event. I believe that the future is bright if we use the societal benefits of football, working alongside our stakeholders, to empower women and girls around the world.”
