GCL partners AWS to power smart broadcasting for S3

GLOBAL CHESS LEAGUE (GCL), a joint initiative of Tech Mahindra and FIDE, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of the world’s most widely adopted cloud platforms, to elevate the way chess is broadcast and experienced. With AWS technologies, GCL will introduce real-time game updates, deeper analytical insights, enhanced live commentary, multilingual coverage, expanded global broadcasts, and interactive fan zones as part of its Smart Broadcasting experience for Season 3.

These advancements are aimed at creating a more immersive and personalised fan experience, offering viewers richer context behind every move, multiple ways to follow the action, and new avenues for engagement. Season 3 will take place from 13 to 24 December at Mumbai’s Royal Opera House.

As the world’s first official franchise-based chess league — featuring joint men’s and women’s teams, GCL continues to push for a more inclusive and accessible future for the sport. Strengthening its commitment to technology-driven growth, GCL will collaborate with AWS to leverage cloud-native infrastructure, AI/ML-led analytics and real-time media services to deliver high-quality, globally scalable broadcast experiences, per the release.

GCL’s broadcast workflow integrates several AWS services, including AWS Elemental MediaLive, Amazon SageMaker and Amazon CloudFront. These tools support secure, reliable and low-latency video transport, real-time data processing, and live encoding, enabling GCL to move from traditional broadcast systems to flexible cloud-based capabilities that meet global demand.

GCL chairperson Peeyush Dubey said, “Every move in chess is about foresight, precision, and timing, and those same principles guide how we run this league. Collaborating with AWS allows us to build a smart broadcasting backbone that mirrors the intelligence of the game itself. Together, we’re setting a new standard for how sport and technology can work in perfect synchrony.”

AWS India and South Asia head of partner business Praveen Sridhar added, “The Global Chess League represents a fusion of tradition and innovation. Through our collaboration, we’re enabling a smarter, more connected broadcast experience that brings fans closer to the game than ever before. From real-time analytics to immersive storytelling, AWS is proud to support GCL’s vision for the future of chess.”
