MUMBAI: After de-linking from cricket associations in the Indian market for the last five-plus years, Hero MotoCorp Ltd is reportedly set to announce a big bang return with the signing of Team India captain Virat Kohli as brand ambassador.
The development comes even as the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer is set to introduce four motorcycles with 200-300cc engine capacity over the next 18 months and sell them through new premium dealerships, in a strategy to diversify from its image as a mass-market brand, Livemint reports.
“A high-decibel, multimedia campaign will be rolled out featuring Virat Kohli and the Xtreme 200R over the next few days,” a company executive responsible for Hero’s advertising campaigns told the business daily.
For Hero MotoCorp, Kohli’s appointment is significant in that it will be after an over five-year gap that the Delhi headquartered two-wheeler giant will be using a cricketer as brand ambassador.
It bears noting that there was a time when Hero MotoCorp had as many as eight brand ambassadors from cricket, Livemint reports.
