NEW DELHI: Hockey India (HI) on Saturday named Rajinder Singh as its new president after Ms Mariamma Koshy submitted her resignation from the post.
Koshy, a former state-level centre forward, was appointed as HI president in November 2016 after Narinder Batra stepped down from the position following his election as president of the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
Ms. Koshy had in various capacities been involved in hockey administration for over two decades. “Ms Mariamma Koshy has contributed to Indian Hockey over the last two decades and we are grateful for her services. She has been a guiding light for the federation and also a big source of inspiration to many players and administrators alike. We wish her the best in her future endeavors,” stated HI secretary general Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Singh has been elevated from his current position of sr vice president to take charge as president effective Saturday, 19 May. Singh was earlier the HI treasurer and is currently the treasurer of Hockey Jammu & Kashmir.
“We are happy to name Mr Rajinder Singh as the president of Hockey India from 19 May 2018 following the resignation of Ms Mariamma Koshy. We wish Mr Rajinder Singh the best in this new role,” Ahmad noted.
