PUNE: Hosts Hockey Maharashtra held their nerves till the final hooter to beat Hockey Karnataka 4-3 and win the first ever Hockey India 5-a-side National Championship (Combined Men & Women) 2017, being held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium, Balewadi, Pune on Saturday.
The final was a big draw with the hosts showcasing exemplary skills to enthrall the local audience who had turned up in big numbers to cheer their team.
Meanwhile, Hockey Karnataka clinched the second edition of the Hockey India 5-a-side Senior Men’s National Championship 2017 title after beating Hockey Haryana 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout here at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium, Balewadi on Sunday.
The final went into a penalty shootout after 4-4 stalemate in the 30 minutes regulation time.
The womens’ final saw Hockey Haryana emerge victories over hosts Hockey Maharashtra, winning 4-3.
In the Women’s Bronze medal match, Uttar Pradesh beat Punjab 6-4 while in the the Men’s Bronze medal match, backed by a boisterous home crowd, hosts Maharashtra beat Uttar Pradesh 6-4.
