MUMBAI: Ahead of the Vivo Indian Premier League 2018, Star India’s video on demand (VoD) platform Hotstar has launched a sports subscription service.
The critical pull factor in the service, which is priced at Rs 299 per year, is that subscribers who sign on will be able to watch the live sports stream (including of course the IPL) at the same time as it airs on the Star Sports TV channels.
For users who have not subscribed to the plan, IPL and other sports properties of Star will be available with a 5-minute delay. Which, it needs noting was how it was last year with the IPL when the TV rights were with Sony and Star had the digital rights.
Star has set a target of reaching 700 million viewers through TV and digital for this year’s IPL. The event will be broadcast in six languages (English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Telugu) on the Star Sports network. It will also have a Super Fan Feed on Star Sports Select in English.
