DUBAI: The “security concerns” drama executive produced by Committee of Administrators chairman Vinod Rai and lines delivered by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, has come to its expected conclusion with the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday assuring the Indian cricket board that matters raised would be “addressed adequately”.
Keeping to the script, Johri reportedly “expressed satisfaction” with the ICC’s security arrangements that have been put in place for the World Cup, scheduled to be held in England and Wales starting May 30.
As the security angle has been adequately addressed (not that it was ever a real issue in the first place), the BCCI still has to take a decision on the calls from various quarters to boycott the World Cup first round match against Pakistan on June 16 (and possible subsequent ones). The boycott demands came in the wake of the nationwide outrage over the Pulwama terror attack, which led to the death of 42 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and had the incontrovertible imprint of the Pakistan deep state written all over it.
As has been clear from the outset, this is a political call that the Union government has to take, NOT the BCCI.
