ICC charges Lanka bowling coach Zoysa under anti-corruption code

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Sri Lankan bowling coach Nuwan Zoysa with three counts of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and been provisionally suspended him.

Zoysa, who played 30 Tests and 95 ODIs for Sri Lanka during 1997-2007, has 14 days from 1 November to respond to the charges.

Without revealing the specifics of it, the ICC said Zoysa has been charged with the following offences:
Article 2.1.1 – being party to an effort to fix or contrive or to otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of an International match.
Article 2.1.4 – directly soliciting, inducing, enticing or encouraging a player to breach Code Article 2.1.1.
Article 2.4.4 – failing to disclose to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit full details of any approaches or invitations he received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code.

Following the anti-corruption charges, Sri Lanka Cricket have sent Zoysa on immediate leave.

Earlier in the month, former Sri Lankan captain and chairman of selectors Sanath Jayasuriya had also been charged with two counts of breaching the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code. The charges related to “failure or refusal to cooperate with” and “obstructing or delaying” any investigation carried out by the ACU.
