DUBAI: The International Cricket Council appears to have taken the pollution levels in Delhi seriously. PTI reports the ICC might incorporate air pollution in its ‘playing conditions’ clause after taking serious note of the plight of the Sri Lankan cricketers during the third and final Test against India recently.
The matter will be referred to the ICC’s medical committee, which has been provided the relevant reports as well as data of the prevailing air quality in Delhi, the report says. “The ICC has noted the conditions in which the Delhi Test was played and has already requested that the issue be considered by the medical committee for guidance should the situation arise in future. The matter is likely to be discussed in February’s ICC meeting,” an ICC spokesperson told PTI on Friday.
‘Playing conditions’ on the ICC’s clauses did not have a specific mention of air pollution thus far, and it is expected that the permissible AQI (Air Quality Index) limit to play competitive cricket will be added to the list now.
