IDBI Tribute Run 2018 draws 7500 participants

MUMBAI: IDBI Federal Life Insurance, in association with the Sea Hawks Foundation unveiled Friday the route map of the Tribute Run which will be held in Mumbai this Sunday. The run is a sporting tribute in memory of the martyrs and brave hearts of Mumbai on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

The Tribute Run will flag off from the National Sports Club of India (NSCI), Worli on Sunday, 25 November. More than 7,500 runners across various age groups will make up the iconic starting line of the run. There are three different categories – 21K, 10K and 5K which will witness the participation of 1,300 runners, 3,500 runners, and 2,700 respectively.

The races will be flagged off by Mr. Karthik Raman, IDBI Federal Life Insurance CMO; Mr. Julio Ribeiro, ex-Mumbai Police Commissioner; Sarlaben Parekh (who lost her son and daughter-in-law in the terror attacks); Purav Raja, international tennis player; Tara Sharma, fitness enthusiast and film/television actress; GOC LT Gen Prashar; Jayantilal Shah, NSCI President and Mayank Vyas Singh (race organizer). Prior to each race, celebrated fitness trainer Dr. Mickey Mehta and his team will be conducting warm up sessions for the runners.

NSCI will be the starting as well as the finishing point of all the three races. The route of the 21K Run passes through NSCI-Haji Ali-Navjeevan Society-Lamington Road-Marine Lines Station-Metro Cinema and later takes a U-turn from Metro Cinema back to NSCI. The 10K will pass through Haji Ali-Navjeevan Society-Lamington Road-Marine Lines Station and then U-turn back towards NSCI. Commencing from NSCI, the 5K run will proceed towards Haji Ali- Rakhangi Chowk, followed by a U-turn from KK road back to the finish line. The 21km run will commence at 5:30 am whereas 10km and 5km will start at 6.30 am and 7.30 am respectively.

Raman said: “We are happy to see so many runners come forward to pay their tribute to the heroes of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. It shows the solidarity and spirit of Mumbai to #KeepMoving. It reinstates, that the city will never forget the courage shown by brave hearts in the face of adversity. We are privileged and humbled to be part of this commemorative initiative.”

Mayank Singh also commented on the event: “We are grateful to the Government of Maharashtra, the Mumbai Police and the BMC for their support and cooperation in putting together the iconic route of The Tribute Run. We assure the best of arrangements for the runners and will leave no stone unturned to make this a memorable race for them.”
