IFSC cancels Innsbruck 2020 Sport Climbing World Cup

TORINO, Italy: The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and Austria Climbing announced Friday that the IFSC World Cup, originally scheduled in Innsbruck (AUT) from June 23 to 27, has been “definitely” cancelled.

Indeed, although the current situation in Austria is slightly and steadily improving, and considering the actual regulations set by the Austrian government on the organisation of public events, it was decided to cease preparations of the competition.

Furthermore, during Thursday’s teleconference meeting, the IFSC executive board also decided to move the IFSC European Championsips in Moscow to the period from November 20 to 29, in order to further minimise the health and logistic risks connected to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sport Climbing will make its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, and it has been provisionally included in the programme of Paris 2024. Two medal events in Sport Climbing were contested at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.
