MYFANDOM has released its inaugural India Fandom Report, highlighting the rapid rise of fandom culture in the country and projecting that India’s fandom economy could reach $10 billion by 2028.
The report tracks the significant growth of Indian fan communities across concerts, OTT platforms, films and music over the past two years. It emphasises how fandoms are increasingly shaping consumer behaviour, cultural trends and India’s global soft power.
According to the findings, there has been a notable shift from passive viewership to more active fan participation. Merchandise, live experiences and community engagement are emerging as major pillars of the ecosystem, reflecting the evolving relationship between audiences and entertainment properties.
Nearly 40 per cent of fans expressed interest in meet-and-greet experiences with their favourite artists, while 45 per cent consider official merchandise an important part of their fandom journey. The report describes this transformation as the arrival of the “Fandom Era”, where fans play a pivotal role in driving both entertainment and commercial outcomes.
The report also includes perspectives from prominent industry figures such as Jay Mehta of Warner Music India, Perry Farrell of Lollapalooza, Kunal Khambhati of District by Zomato, Anjula Acharia and Poornima Sharma of Netflix India, among others.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis said, “The India Fandom Report is a timely initiative that seeks to understand the evolving dynamics of fan communities and their growing influence. The creation of MYFANDOM as a platform that celebrates fan culture and connects Indian audiences with global entertainment experiences is a noteworthy step in recognising the power and potential of fandom in India.”
MYFANDOM co-founder Jinal Ajmera commented, “Today, India’s hold on the collective consciousness of the world is evident in every aspect of our media and entertainment. The exchange of art and culture, the influx of international artists, businesses and music festivals into the Indian economy made 2025 – ‘The Year of Fandom’. The India Fandom Report is our endeavour to celebrate India’s Soft Power with a record of these incredible strides made in the Indian Fandom Economy.”
MYFANDOM co-founder Vivek Ajmera shared, “We are on a journey to empower fans to Live Their Fandom. As India rises to unprecedented heights of economic power, our aim with the India Fandom Report is to highlight the scope of the country’s Orange Economy by offering a macro lens on the growing fan culture in India. With this, we take one step forward for India’s next billion fans.”
