IOC partner Dow to build its new HQ

LAUSANNE: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that one of its global partners, the Dow Chemical Company aka Dow Solutions will be managing all the architectural aspects of the top sporting body’s new headquarters in the Swiss city, which is scheduled for inauguration in June 2019.

To be known as the ‘Olympic House’, it is expected to be the unified global meeting place for any Olympic-related matters and will staff all its employees at one place. At present, the IOC has four branches scattered across the city.

Dow Solutions will be responsible in creating the architecture of the Olympic House through elements such as the movement of athletes, a natural park setting in the form of rooftop gardens, high levels of energy efficiency, long-term savings and sustainability. The IOC aims to gain the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification.

“At the iconic new Olympic House, innovative Dow solutions will be applied to deliver benefits in areas such as energy efficiency, health and safety,” said Louis A. Vega, Dow’s Vice President of Olympic & Sports Solutions.

“We look forward to the next steps in this journey with the IOC, offering a lasting impact on generations to come and creating an inspiring atmosphere for all who work and visit the building.”

Dow Solutions is also the Official Chemistry Company and Carbon Partner of the Olympic Games, having supplied its technologies since 1980s. Its innovative global carbon mitigation programme helps to compensate carbon emissions from the IOC’s daily operations, as well as other projects within the Olympic Movement.
