MUMBAI: After 60 matches of Indian Premier League 2019, which culminated with the nail-biting victory of Mumbai Indians over Chennai Super Kings for their fourth IPL title, Twitter declared Tuesday that the tournament set new benchmarks on the social media platform.
This year, Twitter saw a record-breaking 27 million tweets, a 44% increase over 2018’s IPL-related tweets.
The Golden Tweet for #IPL2019 was a tweet from Mumbai Indians cricketer Hardik Pandya acknowledging MS Dhoni as his friend and source of inspiration. Dhoni and Pandya played each other in the final. The tweet received nearly 16,000 retweets.
Mumbai Indians dominated the conversation on Twitter on Sunday when they won the IPL Final, owning 63% of total mentions vs. Chennai Super Kings 37%.
However, it was the CSK that consistently won hearts by becoming the most tweeted about team on Twitter.
After a great innings on the field, CSK captain MSDhoni was the most tweeted about player during IPL 2019, followed by Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh and Andre Russell.
This year also saw a growth in native video clips tweeted on the platform, with the IPL tweeting out 130% more video tweets as compared to IPL 2018.
Unsurprisingly, the final was the most tweeted about match of the season.
