MUMBAI: A senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official has confirmed that it will release the schedule for the much-awaited IPL 2019 season in early March after seeing the dates for the Lok Sabha elections, Hindustan Times reports.
The elections will be held in multiple phases across states, which is a critical factor for the IPL to acquire adequate security to hold the entire tournament in the country which is estimated to begin from 23 March and end in the second week of May with the final in Chennai.
“The schedule will take some time as we need to wait for the general election dates to be released by the election commission. Since this is the most important event in the calendar year, one has to ensure that we work according to the dates and plan the games in a way that everything is in sync. We all know the kind of arrangement that goes behind hosting elections and that is the priority,” the BCCI official told HT.
The 2019 tournament will be the first instance of the IPL not having a chairman or a commissioner since the CoA has abolished all the committees of the BCCI until new elections are held as per the revised board constitution. The CEO and CFO will have the majority of the decision-making power while only the Cricket Advisory Committee and the duly reconstituted selection committees are allowed to operate.
