ISL clubs likely to include OCI players in league on AIFF proposal

THE INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE could include Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) players from the 2026-27 season after AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey proposed the idea at Monday’s meeting with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, which was welcomed by clubs.

Chaubey proposed one to two OCI players per club, mandatory use of Indian strikers in starting lineups, and maximising Indian support staff, citing Bengaluru FC’s Ryan Williams as an example, a report in The Telegrapgh said.

ISL-13 is expected to begin in the first week of September. Clubs have proposed contributing Rs 15.4 crore annually to AIFF under a four to five-year plan, with Genius Sports, which bid Rs 2,129 crore annually for a 15+5 year commercial rights deal, still in consideration.
