MUMBAI: Uday Shankar, president, The Walt Disney Company APAC and chairman, Star & Disney India, has named the successor to Sanjay Gupta, till recently, country manager of Star & Disney India, in an internal mail sent out Friday morning.
K Madhavan, managing director (South), Star India, has been appointed Star & Disney India’s new country manager, replacing Gupta, who is joining internet behemoth Google as its India country manager. For the record, Gupta’s last working day at Star will be December 27.
As Shankar’s internal mail notes: “All of Sanjay’s direct reports will report to K Madhavan.”
With one difference though. The team at Star’s OTT platform Hotstar will not report in to Madhavan, as was the case earlier with Gupta. “For the time being I will have direct oversight on Hotstar, and Hotstar leadership will work directly with me,” Shankar’s mail further reads.
Shankar’s mail further reads: “Nitin Bawankule who has recently taken charge of ad-sales for HSM (Hindi speaking markets), sports & Hotstar will report to K Madhavan for the TV business and will work directly with me for Hotstar sales.”
Madhavan currently oversees the business ventures of Star in four southern states and a portfolio of regional channels in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu.
