KCA revokes Sreesanth’s 3-yr ban on unconditional apology; can play in KCL

The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has revoked the three-year ban imposed on former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth, clearing the way for him to participate in cricketing activities organised by the association, including the Kerala Cricket League (KCL). The decision comes after Sreesanth submitted an unconditional apology to the state body, prompting it to reconsider its earlier disciplinary action.

The ban was imposed in 2026 after Sreesanth publicly criticised the KCA over issues related to the Kerala Cricket League and made remarks that the association deemed false and defamatory. In response, the KCA had barred the former India pacer from all cricket-related activities under its jurisdiction for three years.

At a special meeting, the KCA decided to withdraw the suspension after taking note of Sreesanth’s written apology. According to the association, his expression of regret and assurance of maintaining cordial relations with the governing body led to the decision to restore his standing.

The revocation is a significant development for the 43-year-old, who had been expected to feature in the Kerala Cricket League before the disciplinary action disrupted his involvement. With the ban lifted, Sreesanth is once again eligible to participate in KCA-recognised cricketing events and contribute to the growth of the state’s domestic cricket ecosystem.

The latest chapter adds to a career that has seen both remarkable highs and prolonged controversies. Sreesanth was a member of India’s victorious squads at the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, but his career was derailed by the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) initially imposed a life ban, it was later reduced to seven years, allowing him to return to competitive cricket in 2020 before he retired from domestic cricket in 2022.

For the KCA, the decision signals an attempt to move beyond a prolonged dispute with one of Kerala’s most prominent cricketers. While the association has reiterated the importance of maintaining discipline and respecting its code of conduct, the lifting of the ban opens the door for Sreesanth’s renewed involvement in Kerala cricket, particularly through the franchise-based Kerala Cricket League.
