NEW YORK: NBA legend LeBron James is all set to extend his connect with television as he will be featuring in an innovative, unscripted television series called ‘The Shop’ which will be broadcasted by HBO Sports on August 28 this year.
James will also be co-producing the show via his award-winning digital media company Uninterrupted. The veteran basketball player will be a part of an unprecedented experience at barber shops across the USA, which will involve a light-hearted, spirit exchange of ideas on culturally important topics such as sports, music, business, world events and pop culture.
For the first show, James would be joined by Maverick Carter (his business partner at UnInterrupted), rap icon Snoop Dogg, Golden State Warriors star and three-time NBA champion Draymond Green, Los Angeles Sparks star and two-time WNBA MVP Candace Parker and Peabody and Emmy Award winner Jon Stewart amongst many names.
“’The Shop’ is exactly why we created UnInterrupted,” James said.
“Anyone who has been in a real barbershop, like the ones where I grew up, knows why this show can be so incredible. I’m really excited HBO believed in our idea and is helping us create something special.”
“LeBron James told us he wanted to create a place where athletes and artists can come together to share points of view freely,” Peter Nelson, executive vice president, HBO Sports said.
“We are honored they want HBO to be the home of that conversation. We are pleased to partner with LeBron, Maverick Carter and Uninterrupted on ‘The Shop’.”
‘The Shop’ will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms.
The series marks another programming alliance between HBO Sports and James and Carter’s media enterprises. Earlier this year, HBO Sports announced a SpringHill Entertainment production of the college sports documentary film “Student Athlete,” which is set to debut on October 2.
