SAILGP HAS CONFIRMED the sale of the championship-winning Los Gallos SailGP Team to Quantum Pacific Group, marking a major new chapter for both the Spanish team and the league’s continued global growth.
The deal represents the “largest-ever investment in a sailing team in Spain” and sees one of SailGP’s most dominant outfits backed by a group with a growing footprint across elite sport. While financial details were not disclosed, the franchise’s sale price was reportedly in the $60 million ballpark.
Los Gallos enter the new ownership era as reigning Season 4 champions, having consistently set the pace at the front of the fleet. Led by Olympic gold medallists Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, alongside strategist Nicole van der Velden, the Spanish team has become one of the league’s standout success stories.
For the record, Quantum Pacific is the holding company of Israeli shipping tycoon Idan Ofer, who Forbes estimates is worth $32.1 billion. The acquisition adds SailGP to the Quantum Pacific’s expanding sports portfolio, which includes Atlético de Madrid, F.C. Famalicão and the Movistar Team.
SailGP managing director Andrew Thompson said: “This is another hugely significant milestone for SailGP and for the continued growth of the championship. Quantum Pacific brings a deep understanding of sport performance, commercial success and the maritime world. Spain is a cornerstone market for us, defined by its rich sporting culture, incredibly passionate fanbase and a winning SailGP team, and we’re proud to see the team enter this next phase with such a strong ownership group behind it.”
Quantum Pacific says the move reflects its confidence in SailGP’s growth trajectory and global appeal.
Quantum Pacific (UK) LLP CEO Antoine Bonnier noted: “We are delighted to welcome Los Gallos into the Quantum Pacific family. The Spanish team is a natural fit for Quantum Pacific. The Iberian region is a market we know well and believe in fully – and SailGP, with its global audience and elite competitive format, is exactly the kind of high-growth sport platform we believe in. We are here to win, and we are here to build something that lasts.”
Los Gallos SailGP Team CEO Antonio Alquézar added: “Welcoming Quantum Pacific as the new owner of the team marks a significant milestone in our journey. Their unmatched experience in sport provides us with the platform to build on our recent strong performances and to deliver the next phase of our success. We are grateful to SailGP for their support, and as a team we are excited to begin this new chapter with greater ambition and a clear long-term vision.”
Spain’s growing role in SailGP
The transaction means Los Gallos become the 12th of 13 teams in the Rolex SailGP Championship to be privately owned, underlining the league’s evolution into a global, investment-backed sports property.
Spain remains a key market for SailGP, with a passionate fanbase and a proven track record as a host nation. After four successful seasons in Cádiz, the championship will head to Valencia for the first time on September 5–6, 2026.
As part of the deal, Quantum Pacific’s Amit Singh and Harry Odling will join the team’s board, signalling a long-term commitment to the Spanish outfit’s future.
