Matthew Hayden joins Glasgow Cosmic in ETPL as co-owner, head coach

AUSTRALIAN CRIKCET PLAYER, Matthew Hayden, has joined Glasgow Cosmic as co-owner and head coach ahead of the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL).

Matthew Hayden said, “It is with great honour and genuine humility that I accept the role of Head Coach of the Glasgow Cosmics for the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League. Cricket has given me a lifetime of opportunities – as a player, teammate, mentor, broadcaster and coach – and the chance to help build a new franchise from the ground up is a challenge that excites me enormously.”

Hayden said it was the long-term vision of the franchise and its leadership that inspired him to join the project. Hayden described the ETPL as a significant opportunity for cricket’s continued global expansion.

Recently, Rahul Dravid was announced as the owner of Dublin Guardians, ahead of the league’s launch in August 2026. The six-team league, launched in partnership with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association, features franchises from Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam. It is Europe’s first ICC-sanctioned multi-country franchise T20 league.

The league is co-owned by Abhishek Bachchan, with franchise owners including Glenn Maxwell, Steve Waugh, Chris Gayle, Jonty Rhodes, Faf du Plessis, and Heinrich Klaasen. Du Plessis and Maxwell will also play, alongside Steven Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Mitchell Santner, and Liam Livingstone.
