NORTH EAST PREMIER LEAGUE (NEPL) has been launched with the objective of creating a sustainable, long-term professional football ecosystem in India’s North East region.
The launch was formalised through the signing of a Deed of Contract between the State Football Associations of the region and Japan-based firm Bestserv, which will act as the league’s organiser and commercial rights holder. The occasion also marked the signing of a landmark 10-year agreement, reinforcing the long-term commitment to the project.
Representatives and senior officials from all eight North Eastern states were present at the launch, reflecting a unified regional approach to the league’s development.
The proposed league is designed to offer a structured professional platform for footballers from the region, while also supporting State Football Associations in their journey towards financial self-sustainability. The initiative is expected to strengthen the overall football ecosystem in the Northeast and create enduring opportunities for local talent.
Bestserv chairman Luis Nakaya said, “The North East of India is one of the richest regions in the country in terms of football culture, talent, passion, and identity. For decades, this region has produced players, supporters, and strong football traditions, but it has not had a league structure that truly reflects its potential. NEPL is designed to change that. It is not a short-term tournament or an experimental project, but a stable, long-term professional football ecosystem.”
