MUMBAI: Olympic Gold Quest has announced support to 2017 World Weightlifting Champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu.
Mirabai is also among this year’s recipients of the country’s fourth-highest civilian award – Padma Shri.
Mirabai, who was recently awarded the country’s fourth-highest civilian award – Padma Shri – is a 2016 Rio Olympian who lifted a new national record of 194 kgs to win the Gold medal at the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships held at Anaheim, USA. She became only the second Indian weightlifter to achieve that feat (after Karnam Malleswari), and the first one after over two decades.
CEO of OGQ, Viren Rasquinha said: “Mirabai is a world class athlete and we are very proud to support her. Currently, OGQ is supporting Mirabai with a sports psychologist and a sports nutritionist. We will give our best to support Mirabai with world class facilities in her quest to win an Olympic medal.”
Mirabai is the first weightlifter to be supported by OGQ. She participates in 48kgs category and will be competing at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on 5th April.
