FRESH OFF BACK-TO-BACK Indian Premier League (IPL) titles, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has made it clear that international franchise expansion is not currently on its agenda.
Co-owner Satyan Gajwani has said that the franchise is focused on strengthening its core operations, deepening fan engagement, and completing its recent ownership transition before considering ventures into overseas cricket leagues.
Speaking to Reuters, Gajwani said the new ownership group is still focused on integrating operations and charting the franchise’s future direction. He indicated that discussions about acquiring teams in overseas T20 leagues would be premature at this stage.
RCB was acquired in March 2026 by a consortium that includes Aditya Birla Group, Blackstone, Bolt Ventures, and The Times Group in a deal reportedly valued at approximately $1.78 billion.
Several IPL franchises have aggressively expanded their footprints beyond India. Teams such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders own or operate franchises in competitions across the United States, South Africa, the UAE, and the Caribbean.
RCB, however, believes its identity remains closely tied to Bengaluru and cricket. According to Gajwani, the franchise’s immediate goal is to strengthen that connection rather than stretch resources into new markets.
While ruling out immediate expansion, Gajwani did not close the door on future international growth. He acknowledged that the RCB brand has global appeal and suggested that future initiatives could include overseas cricket academies or eventually participation in franchise leagues abroad. However, he stressed that no decision has been made.
One of the biggest priorities for the new owners is improving access for RCB supporters. Demand for tickets at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium consistently exceeds supply, with the venue holding around 33,800 spectators. Gajwani said the franchise is exploring ways to enhance the fan experience and potentially increase capacity or engagement opportunities beyond matchdays.
