Pakistan Cricket Board appoints its first woman director

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board, which held its 60th board of governors meeting here Tuesday, confirmed the appointment of its first-ever woman director.

Reputed human resources executive Ms Alia Zafar has been included among four new PCB directors. The others are finance executive Javed Kurieshi, economist Asim Wajid Jawad and corporate executive Arif Saeed. Ms Zafar and Jawad were appointed for two-year terms.

Ms Zafar has been appointed chairperson of the Human Resource and Remuneration Committee. 

The PCB’s new constitution makes it mandatory to include at least one woman among four independent directors on its board of governors.

PCB chairman Ehsan Mani stated: “I welcome the newly-appointed independent members, especially Ms Alia Zafar, the first female independent member, which is a giant step forward in enhancing the PCB’s governance structure.” 

Ms Zafar’s experience includes HR Group head Bank of Punjab, HR Country head Askari Bank, HR Lead Expert with Crown Agents America, UNDP and USAID in a variety of corporate sectors, including Agha Khan Foundation in four continents. She is a HR specialist with experience in capacity-building, corporate governance, organisational design and performance evaluation.
