Pallikal Asian rep on CGF athletes advisory panel

NEW DELHI: Indian squash champion Dipika Pallikal has been appointed by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) to represent Asia on its athletes advisory commission, Press Trust of India reports.

The commission is the body that speaks on behalf of and represent athletes in Commonwealth countries.

It currently consists of 7 Commonwealth athletes and medallists with experience in games, sports, civic and academic leadership experience.

Pallikal’s wins in consecutive Commonwealth Games events in a successful squash career has made her a deserving candidate for the honour, according to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which had proposed her name in August 2017.

CGF president Louise Martin CBE confirmed Pallikal’s appointment in an e-mail sent on July 5 to her as well as the IOA.

Pallikal was pleased with the development.

“I am humbled and honoured to be on the CGFAAC representing Asia. I would like to thank IOA/CGA India for putting forward my name and trusting in my ability to be on such a huge platform.

“I look forward to working with the rest of the team closely and being a voice for athletes of the Commonwealth Federations.”
