PCA to launch franchise-based Punjab Premier League

PUNJAB CRICKET ASSOCIATION (PCA) is set to stage the Punjab Premier League (PPL) in June, with the state’s domestic T20 competition to be played under a new name and format.

All six teams in the PPL will operate as franchises, with players acquired through an auction. Participation will be limited to Punjab-registered cricketers. Leading names from the state, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Arshdeep Singh, are set to feature as marquee players.

Other experienced Punjab cricketers, such as Ramandeep Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Naman Dhir, Anmolpreet Singh, and Prabhsimran Singh, are also expected to be included as marquee names, alongside young prospect Vihaan Malhotra. The league will also provide opportunities for Punjab’s Under-23 players to compete alongside senior professionals.

Additional players such as Mayank Markande, Ashwani Kumar, Gurnoor Brar, Harnoor Singh, Raman Dhir, and Harpreet Brar are also set to feature, adding further depth and competitiveness to the competition.

All players will go through an auction, with cricketers placed in different price brackets and franchises given the opportunity to bid for their preferred signings.

Six franchises are expected to take part, with several prominent Punjab-based business houses and corporate groups reportedly keen to acquire ownership stakes and align themselves with the state’s premier domestic T20 league.
