MUMBAI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to host the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, Mumbai Mirror reports.
According to a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official who talked to Mirror, the BCCI’s understanding is that the tournament will be held in Dubai, tentatively in September.
This year’s Asia Cup, if happens in time, will be a good preparation curve for the participating teams from Asia just before the start of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Pakistan has the hosting rights of the tournament, just like India had back in 2018. But in view of the diplomatic tensions between the countries, the tournament was staged in the UAE two years back.
“Our understanding is that the Asia Cup matter is resolved, and the neutral venue will be finalised at the Asian Cricket Council meeting,” the BCCI official told the Mirror.
When contacted by the daily for his response on the reported development, PCB chief Ehsan Mani said: “It is an ACC matter, and the venue will be decided at the ACC meeting.”
