NEW YORK: The NBA’s plan to begin the 2021 season on December 22 has cleared a significant hurdle, with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) representatives voting to approve the proposed 72-game season starting on that date.
The next steps that will need to be navigated by the NBA include a safe plan for play during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the financial implications for revenue in what will be a shortened season.
A statement released by the NBPA reads: “The Board of Player Representatives of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has tentatively approved a start date of December 22, 2020 for the 2020-2021 NBA season and a 72-game schedule. Additional details remain to be negotiated and the NBPA is confident that the parties will reach agreement on these remaining issues relevant to the upcoming season.”
