THRISSUR: LaLiga has expanded its comprehensive grassroots football development programme, LaLiga Football Schools in India as it opened another centre in the state of Kerala. The programme will be hosted at the local partner, CREORTS’ facilities and centres.
In association with India On Track (IOT), the league has plans to open 30 such centres across the country, having done so in Delhi first up nearly two weeks ago. The league is hoping that it will be accessible to over 3000 pupils nationwide by the turn of this year. The training programme will be overseen by the programme’s technical director, Javier Cabrera, appointed by LaLiga for India.
LaLiga India MD Jose Cachaza said: “Kerala has been one of the frontrunners in the country when it comes to their love for football. It is with immense joy that we are launching the LaLiga Football Schools in Thrissur for young kids over here to pursue their dreams and play football the LaLiga way. We hope our programme help them to realise their potential and make their country proud at a global platform in this sport.”
To kick-off the programme in Kerala, free workshops will be conducted by LaLiga at the Cooperation Stadium, Thrissur on 27-28 October.
The league has extended its association with the state further as one of its teams Girona FC had won the triangular series in Kochi earlier this year, also featuring Indian Super League team Kerala Blasters and Australian heavyweights Melbourne City FC. It was the first time that India hosted a club tournament featuring international teams.
