PUNJAB WILL HOST the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy this October for the first time, with matches at Balbir Singh Sr. Hockey Stadium and Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar. The top six teams from the Asian Games, concluding October 3-4, will participate.
CM Bhagwant Singh Mann met Hockey India officials to review preparations, committing to world-class arrangements and security for players and officials. He noted that despite producing top hockey talent for decades, Punjab had never hosted a major international hockey tournament.
The post on X concluded, “Today, I held an important meeting with office-bearers of the Indian Hockey Federation to review the preparations for the upcoming Asian Hockey Champions Trophy to be organised in Punjab. Punjab has always been the nursery of hockey, and hosting such an international tournament on our soil will further inspire our youth to connect with sports fields. Your Government is fully committed to ensuring grand arrangements, foolproof security, and every possible facility for the players participating in this global event. Let us all come together to once again create a ‘Rangla Punjab’ in the field of sports.”
A Four-Nation Invitational Tournament has also been approved for Punjab. Mann called both events a major achievement for the state’s sporting calendar.
