Ranji Trophy champs Vidarbha to be awarded Rs50m

NAGPUR: After winning back-to-back Ranji Trophy titles, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) is set to reward the entire playing squad with Rs 30 million, Press Trust of India reports.

Following their win over Saurashtra on home soil in the final on Thursday, the BCCI also joined in with its own cash reward of Rs 20 million. The Vidarbha team had received a total of Rs 50 million last year as well, after it had defeated powerhouses Delhi in the final in Indore for their first-ever domestic championship win.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gives Rs 20 million (as prize money) and we (VCA) will be giving Rs 30 million additionally (to the team). So, the total purse will be Rs 50 million,” VCA president Anand Jaiswal told the newswire.

The VCA and the BCCI are yet to decide on the date of the felicitation ceremony to reward the players due to the upcoming Irani Trophy match in Mumbai from 12 February. The match will see Vidarbha taking on the Rest of India side led by Indian Test batsman and vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane.
