MUMBAI: A former owner of an IPL team, and other leading real estate companies, are reported to be the winners of bids to own teams in the upcoming T20 Mumbai League, which is being held from March 11-21 at the Wankhede Stadium.
A report in Mumbai Mirror said developer Mukesh Patel, who was one of the co-owners of the now defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala IPL franchise, along with others such as PK Hospitality, Star Connect Entertainment, Transcon Developers, Shree Naman Group of Developers, and a consortium of Jupiter City Developers and Cosmos Prime Projects, are amongst the winners.
The league is being organized by Probability Sports, a consortium consisting of IIFL and Wizcraft, who have got the rights for the six-franchise tournament from the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA).
The bids were reportedly opened on Wednesday, but the official announcement is likely to be made only in the next few days. The base prize for owning one of the franchises from Mumbai South, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, or Mumbai South-Central was Rs 30 million.
