PUNE: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sent members of its Age Verification Cell to the city to check the authenticity of age certificates submitted by athletes participating in the ongoing Khelo India Youth Games, Times of India reports.
SAI is set to use the Tanner Whitehouse 3 (TW3) method for the process, which has also been adopted by the likes of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“It is not just for the medallists, like the anti-doping age agency, we are also conducting random in-competition tests of the participants of Khelo India,” SAI Human Performance Lab senior scientific officer Dr Meenu Dhingra told TOI.
In case of an athlete being caught for age fudging, he or she is likely to lose their scholarship under the Khelo India programme.
