Seven clears Cricket Australia dues ahead of arbitration hearing

MELBOURNE: Channel Seven has paid the A$10 million it owed Cricket Australia just days before the high-stakes feud between the game and the network heads to arbitration, reported The Brisbane Times.

It has also emerged that CA’s pay-TV broadcast partner, Foxtel, has paid in full the A$33 million instalment it was due to make over a fortnight ago.

In 2018, Seven and Foxtel signed a deal with CA worth A$1.18 billion over the period. Last week CA indicated that they would offer a discount to the broadcasters over this deal. The broadcasters are unhappy with the quality of the Big Bash League this season, fearing the talent pool will be diluted by supersized international squads in hubs.

BBL has confirmed last week that the Test against Afghanistan and the ODI’s against New Zealand would be postponed. CA is also yet to release the updated schedule for India’s tour as it is pending approval from the BCCI.
