FORMER INDIAN CRICKETER Shikhar Dhawan has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in connection with a money laundering investigation tied to the illegal betting app 1xBet, official sources told PTI.
The 39-year-old had his statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Investigators sought details about his association with the betting app, understood to be through certain endorsements, and the nature of his involvement with the platform.
The ED is probing multiple cases involving such betting platforms, which are alleged to have defrauded investors of crores of rupees and evaded large sums in taxes.
Last month, the agency questioned another former Indian cricketer, Suresh Raina, for over eight hours in connection with the same case. Raina also had his statement recorded under the PMLA regarding his association with 1xBet.
