Sindhu gifted a BMW X5 for world championship win

HYDERABAD: V Chamundeswaranath, vice-president of Telangana Badminton Association, who has long had a yen for gifting cars to talented athletes, has just organised one at the Annapurna Studios in the Telengana capital in honour of the newly anointed world badminton champion PV Sindhu. 

Telugu film industry superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni handed over the keys of a BMW X5 SUV to Sindhu. The gift was presented by Nagarjuna on behalf of Chamundeswaranath, (aka Chamundi).

For the record, this car is the 22nd vehicle presented by him to a sports star. Sindhu’s coach Pullela Gopichand and parents PV Ramana and P Vijaya were also present at the “hand-over” ceremony.

Nagarjuna said: “It is terrific on the part of Chamundi to honour these outstanding achievers and more so when he also makes it a point to present the young achievers too.”

He also praised the celebrated coach and said: “I must congratulate Gopi for all his selfless efforts in producing such champions.”

On his part, Chamundi said: “It is a priceless feat to be a world champion and sincerely wish she would come back to this venue again winning gold and again felicitated by Nagarjuna.” 

On Chamundi’s penchent for gifting cars, rewind to 2016 post the Rio Olympics. He had then presented BMWs to Silver medalist Sindhu, Bronze medalist wrestler Sakshi Malik and gymnast Dipa Karmakar.

A compulsive networker, Chamundi is well known for his proximity to mega cricket stars – first Mohammad Azharuddin, now Sachin Tendulkar.
